Colorado Backcountry is owned and operated by Ben and Janae Pritchett, locals in Crested Butte since the 1990's. Working as a professional mountain guide, outdoor educator, and avalanche education specialist, Ben spends countless hours on foot, skis, and bike exploring the mountains around Crested Butte and beyond. In addition to his wildlife biology degree from Western State Colorado University, Ben gained his knowledge of the local geology, flora and fauna through many years of dedicated study and observation, including ecological research and management projects. Janae has lived in Crested Butte since graduating in 1998 from Yale University with degrees in geology and environmental science. Janae works most of the year teaching math at the Crested Butte Community School and spends her summers guiding, racing and teaching mountain bike clinics. Ben and Janae live in the town of Crested Butte with their two children, soaking up the amazing opportunities that Crested Butte provides.
